Till the Last Note 🎬 starring Roberta Alexander
Today, Till the Last Note by Marlou van den Berge has its public premiere at the O. Festival in Rotterdam. On 1 June it will be broadcast on Dutch television as part of the Het Uur van de Wolf series on NPO2.
We warmly recommend this documentary. Not only because Roberta Alexander, whom we represented during the last 10 years of her life, is one of its protagonists. But because Marlou has done something rare: she has made a film about a subject the classical music world rarely speaks about openly. What happens to the body and career of a female singer after menopause? What does it mean to keep singing, and why does it matter?
The film was partly shot during Roberta’s final engagements at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. Watching her on those stages, in those last months, is so special.
Roberta passed away in October 2025. We had the honour of accompanying her through the creation of this film, and of working alongside her for a decade. When an artist you represent passes away unexpectedly, there is no manual. For me, as her agent, there was no question either. You make sure everything is taken care of: administratively, professionally, completely. And above all, you continue to honour their memory. Because Roberta Alexander deserves to be heard for many more generations.
Thank you, Marlou, for treating this subject, and these women, with such intelligence, care, and humanity.

Valerio Contaldo: Übers Meer 🌊
This morning, tenor Valerio Contaldo performs at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival in Übers Meer: a concert conceived by Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata tracing a musical journey across the Mediterranean, from Monteverdi to traditional songs of the sea.
The programme follows the great maritime legends: Odysseus, Arion, Tancredi, through works by Cavalli, Monteverdi, Durón, Schürmann, Ghizzolo and others. It closes with Monteverdi’s Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, in which Valerio sings Testo: one of the most dramatic pieces in the early repertoire.
Tenor: Valerio Contaldo
Soprano: Céline Scheen
Mezzo-soprano: Luciana Mancini
Baritone: Renato Dolcini
Alto: Vincenzo Capezzuto
Concept, musical direction & arrangements: Christina Pluhar

Astrid Nordstad: Bernstein’s Wonderful Town 🎭
This week, Astrid Nordstad is back on the main stage of the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo as Ruth Sherwood in Bernstein’s Wonderful Town, a role she first sang there in the 2022/23 season.
Last month she was singing Princess Eboli in Verdi’s Don Carlo. The range says it all.
One of Norway’s most versatile mezzos, Astrid moves between the dramatic Verdi repertoire and Bernstein’s sparkling musical theatre with and authority. Ruth Sherwood is a role that suits her: comedic timing, vocal agility, and great presence on stage.

Aarón Zapico: Los Celos Hacen Estrellas 🌟
Tomorrow, Aarón Zapico conducts the world premiere staging of Los Celos Hacen Estrellas y el Amor Hace Prodigios at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, Tenerife. It’s the first Spanish zarzuela preserved with both complete libretto and score.
Written in 1673 for the birthday of Queen Mariana of Austria at the court of Carlos II, this Baroque zarzuela has never been staged since its recovery. Musicologists Álvaro Torrente and Carmelo Caballero spent years reconstructing the score from incomplete manuscripts at the Biblioteca Nacional de España and other sources. This week, that work finally reaches the stage.
Aarón leads an ensemble of period musicians and has prepared his own version of the score, bringing to life a work that nearly disappeared in the fire that destroyed the Alcázar of Madrid in 1734.
A landmark moment for Spanish Baroque heritage 🇪🇸
